FORNEBU, Norway, September 2, 2019. REV Ocean is excited to announce an important partnership with V.Ships Leisure to provide a suite of ship management services that will help guide us on our vision toward achieving ‘One Healthy Ocean’. This announcement coincides with our new state of the art research vessel departing the VARD shipyard in Tulcea, Romania on its historic first journey to the VARD Brattvag shipyard on the west coast of Norway.
Nina Jensen, CEO of REV Ocean said: “We are pleased to have V.Ships onboard as a key supplier and partner on our project. We choose V.Ships not only for the high quality of marine support services, but also for their commitment to REV Ocean’s vision for a healthier ocean.”
Martin Styrmoe Moen, CFO of REV Ocean added: “We are proud to announce that REV Ocean has entered into a ship management agreement with V.Ships Leisure. V.Ships is an ideal match for our vessel concept with over 34 years of experience in managing vessels in shipping, cruise and offshore. We are confident they will deliver safe, compliant and sustainable operations in many years to come”
REV Ocean will be equipped for conducting missions that cover the entire marine ecosystem. It will be used by scientists and innovators for ‘solutions’ oriented research that explore issues such as the impact CO2 emissions have on the ocean, plastic pollution, and unsustainable fishing. The vessel is 182.9 meters long and will have the capacity of holding 55 scientists and 35 crew. Equipment onboard includes scientific trawls, sonar systems, laboratories, auditorium and classrooms, moonpool, AUV and submarine, an ROV with 6000 meters depth capacity, and advanced communication equipment.
Per Bjornsen, V.Ships Leisure Director, said: “This exciting new partnership with REV Ocean will allow us to leverage V.Group’s unique range of expertise and experience, and our powerful digital ship management platform ShipSure, to contribute to vital scientific research and maximise positive impact, on a vessel that demonstrates the cutting edge in green ship technology.”
Dag Christoffersen, Managing Director V.Ships Nordic Cluster, added: “REV Ocean’s decision to build the biggest vessel of its kind in the world, featuring the world’s most advanced technology and scientific equipment, necessitates ship management support from a partner with unmatched capacity to deliver. In addition to V.Group’s global reach, REV Ocean will benefit from the local expertise of our Norway office, which has strong ties with the Kjell Inge Røkke group of companies, and extensive knowledge of working within the guidelines set out by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.
An independent scientific committee will evaluate and recommend research projects for REV Ocean to pursue, and ensure the highest level of scientific standards and research quality. V.Ships Leisure will play an important role in preparing and operating REV Ocean’s on-board facilities. The first missions are currently being planned for mid-late 2021.
