May 2023. The REV Ocean team joined the AKMA 3 cruise to the Barents Sea to investigate methane seeps at the seabed. More about the AKMA Project and their previous cruises.

The core aims of the AKMA3 cruise include:

Science: Focus on the interplay between changing ocean conditions and the physical, biological, and chemical response of extreme environments (methane and oil seepage sites) through a multidisciplinary study of sites in the Barents Sea.

Education: Sea-going training for students to develop their knowledge in collecting, curating, and processing samples and data, providing opportunities to fully engage in Arctic marine science.

Outreach: Inform the public as widely as possible.
