Brattvag, 24 August 2020 – This week REV Ocean is making its first self-propelled journey at sea. Over a two-day period, the vessel will operate on its own power for the first time and without the assistance of tug boats.
A VARD crew will take REV Ocean on the short journey from the Vard Brattvag shipyard to the Vard Langsten yard in a neighbouring fjord. The next phase of the build will take place in Langsten as the Braatvag yard has another build project arriving and needs the dock space where REV Ocean currently lies.
During the journey, VARD will conduct initial sea trials to test the vessels capabilities, equipment, and safety features. The crew will get the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the state of the art bridge, on-board logistics and the ship’s performance at sea.
While Covid-19 has resulted in a slowdown in the build, work nevertheless continues and the next phase of construction in Langsten will be another milestone in the development of the worlds most advanced research and expedition vessel.
