REV Ocean is excited to report that REV had her four main generators installed last week. The four Wärtsilä engines underwent a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) before they were transported from the factory in Trieste, Italy, to the shipyard in Romania.
The Wärtsilä 8L26 engine produces 2520 El. kW @ 900 rpm, 690v 60Hz, each engine with its alternator measuring a whopping 8.6m in length, 2.5m in width and standing 3.25m tall with a total weight of 53.8 tonnes each. The main generators will provide power for the main propulsion motors which have a SILENT R notation for maximum prevention of underwater acoustic pollution, giving REV a max speed of 17.8 kts. The propulsion motors will be arriving from Spain in the next week ready for installation
REV will also have additional 3MW lithium ion battery pack that can be to power the propulsion motors for silent running, for example during biomass sampling on research missions.
